Comparisons with Experiments

The following figure compares theoretical and experimental extinction diameters for methanol. The solid round points are from the Spacelab experiments for methanol drops. The open circle points at the smaller diameters are for ground experiments; the first and last of these three points are shown in paratheses because the atmosphere was not room-temperature air but rather gas mixtures that led to somewhat higher burning rates and smaller extinction diameters. The solid line obtained from numerical integrations in Prof. Dryer's group from Princeton University, and the dashed lines for two different initial water mass fractions Yo in the droplet are obtained from our asymptotic theory.
